Now in it’s 52nd year the North Tahoe Ski Swap is always a huge event with tons of new and used ski and snowboarding gear for the winter, as well as equipment for the rest of the year as well. The program supports North Tahoe School and North Tahoe High School. Drop off your gear to sell on Friday October 23rd between 3-9 pm. Come back to shop the next day between 9 am and 3 pm. If you volunteer you can get early entry and the coveted first dips on the good stuff. November 7, 11am to 4pm, Truckee Ski and Snowboard Swap, Community Recreation Center, Truckee. The 33rd annual Truckee Ski and Snowboard Swap supports Truckee Youth Sports, and is Truckee’s big ski swap event. It includes a merchant check in between 5-7 pm on November 6th, and public check in between 7-9 am on November 7th (the time to bring in your equipment to sell). Hours are 11 am to 4 pm.

Here is your chance to get the latest and greatest in cross-country ski and snowshoe gear. Proceeds support Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area, which after the last few paltry winters, could really use your support. Bring in your used gear between 3-9pm on Friday November 13th. Not familiar with cross-country ski gear? Experts volunteers will be on hand to get you what you need. www.tahoexc.org

Winter is coming, and if you are in need of some winter gear, put these dates on your calendar to participate in these well known local ski swaps.
For those of you with kids who grow out of their winter equipment waaaaaayyyy too quickly, you already know that the swaps are a great way to pick up some used equipment for a fraction of the cost of new.
New equipment from local vendors are also available too, for those who want to try out some of the latest equipment. In addition, you will find clothing and other miscellaneous winter must haves. Local reps from ski shops and resorts will also be on hand to answer your questions.
Most of the local ski swaps benefit youth sports programs in the area, so not only can you pick up some great deals, but you’re helping the local community as well.
NORTH TAHOE SKI AND SPORTS SWAP in Tahoe City is this Saturday, October 25 at the North Tahoe High School. Hours are from 9am and 3pm. If you have items to sell, bring them on October 24 between the hours of 4 and 9pm. Volunteers get to pre-shop at 7am. Admission is $1
TRUCKEE SKI & SNOWBOARD SWAP – Saturday, November 8th. Hours are 11-4pm at the Truckee Community Center. 8924 Donner Pass Road. Admission is $2. For more information, visit their website: Truckee Donner Parks and Recreation
XC Ski Swap at Tahoe XC – November 14 from 3-9pm. In addition to winter ski equipment, there are snow shoes, kayaks and other outdoor gear to be purchased as well. Visit their website here: Tahoe XC

Oops! I don’t know about you, but this recent ‘more than a light dusting’ snow storm caught me a bit by surprise. I was still really enjoying the fall colors and wasn’t quite ready for that much white stuff yet. Seeing Jack-O-Lanterns sporting a 6″ snow hat is just plain weird.
It is what it is…but I’m still not ready to change my blog header to a winter scene! Please hold off just a little bit longer Old Man Winter!

However, it did serve to remind me that winter really isn’t that far off, and that means it’s ski swap season. If you have kids who outgrow their equipment faster than you could ever afford to buy it new, or you just need some winter items to knock around with, there are some great bargains to be had.
