Every Christmas season for over 25 years, the non-profit Truckee Community Christmas has brought a shining light of joy to hundreds of families in the Truckee area. Last year about 350 families were aided by the non-profit program which provides food, clothing and toys to those who have been identified as truly needy residents of the area. Each family receives a wrapped toy for each child, a large box of food stables, a grocery store gift card, books and warm coats.
“I have been the food coordinator for the past nine years and know this program makes a big difference in people’s lives,” said Lynn Richardson. “Program families must apply and be accepted and so we know who these families are. I have met some wonderful people in Truckee who are part of my volunteer team and I couldn’t do all the organizing without them. It’s a crazy time of year to juggle this commitment, but it’s so worthwhile and you know you are helping others less fortunate in Truckee,” said Richardson.
Would you like to be a part of this effort?
An army of volunteers is currently collecting food, toys and warm coats.
Food Drive – Barrels are in schools and local businesses in town and at Save Mart and Safeway. Please consider buying extra food in the market and dropping it in the barrel, or contact Lynn Richardson, food coordinator, to volunteer. Her email is lynn.richardson@camoves.com.
Toy Drive – New and unwrapped toys are collected and then wrapped. Barrels have been placed to collect the toys throughout town. If you would like to volunteer please contact Lynette Powell. Her email is lynette.powell@sbcglobal.net
Coat Drive – Coats are being collected at various locations in town and at the Church of the Mountains in Downtown Truckee.
Monetary Contributions: You can log onto TruckeeCommunityChristmas.com and make an electronic donation via PayPal. Or mail contributions to Truckee Community Christmas, Inc. P.O. Box 2955, Truckee, CA 96160. All donations are tax-deductible.
The collection of food, toys and coats must end by December 14, so the goods can be delivered before Christmas, so now is the time to make your contribution.

One of the great things about living in a small town is that sense of community that you just don’t get being one of an anonymous millions living in a big city. You have a real sense of your contributions making a difference to those you share this community with.

Boxes filled with food for families
Every year, Truckee opens its heart and ample generosity to those in need, with food, coats and toys. (For a great article on all the many charitable pies Truckee Community Christmas has its finger in, read this wonderful article from the Sierra Sun. www.sierrasun.com )
And every year, I am part of this event – organizing, recruiting,… begging for help, LOL! We always need volunteers! People to make donations, people to help sort all the donations, people to ask for donations for the food barrels at the grocery stores. (Did you know that they often have pre packaged food bags for a small fee, and all you have to do is pay for it at the cash register with your regular grocery purchase? No muss, no fuss! It couldn’t be easier.)

Lynn Richardson, from Truckee Community Christmas and Brooke Bentley are excited to partner for the fourth year!
La Galleria will partner with Truckee Community Christmas for the fourth year by accepting food donations which help feed families in the local community. Bring in a small bag of non-perishable food items between December 4th and December 20th and receive 15% off one item!

Starting December 1st and going through December 18, Truckee Community Christmas will be collecting food, coats and toys for financially struggling families in the area.
Look for our collection barrels throughout the community with our signature red square logo for food donations. (Safeway is always a safe bet, and they have pre-made holiday bags of food you can purchase for your donation.)
Coats will be collected by The Church of the Mountains UMC in downtown Truckee and Sierra Bible Church on Brockway Road.

This is truly a ‘Community’ Christmas, as all donations will go to local families in need. In addition, we always need and welcome local volunteers. We could use the following help:
* Collecting boxes
* Asking for donations at the stores – this is where I need the most help
* Moving food from stores and various businesses to storage – flexible times
* Sorting food
* Delivering boxes to the old middle school on December 19th
