Donner Lake Sunset. Photo by Michelle Portesi
Tahoe Donner is a much sought after area in the town of Truckee CA, especially if you are considering making the Tahoe/Truckee area your year round residence. Packed with amenities, it includes everything you’ll love about living in a mountain community, paired with many of the conveniences of any city development. Four Seasons of beauty and fun, you will soon discover what the locals have known for years – cue song: ‘there is a time for every purpose under heaven’ here in God’s country. Even if you choose to be a part time resident, Tahoe Donner has on site management and programs to help you rent out your vacation home for part of the year.

Tahoe Donner also has its own private beach at Donner Lake – chalk full of kayaks and water sports fun, a Fitness Center with a pool and work out equipment, an equestrian center, golf courses, both downhill and cross country ski areas, tennis courts, a convenient market and two eateries- Pizza on the Hill and The Lodge Restaurant and Pub. You would theoretically never have to go down the hill …but why limit yourself? A quick zip into town, and you have plenty of other choices for shopping and dining. Truckee has forged a deserved reputation for good eats and interesting shops.

Daily Lake Tahoe Photos – Varient3.com
I confess, I’m a bit of a photography junkie. I myself have a marginal point and shoot camera, so I stand in awe of those with good camera equipment and know how to use it.
Our neck of the woods offers no small amount of scenic photo ops, so I thought I’d share a couple of my favorite photographers who inspire me with their stunning shots. Follow them on facebook to have their beautiful photos in your daily news feed, or go to their websites to contact them directly for more information.

Our very own contributing writer Tim Hauserman has a new book out. Geared towards children, but designed to be enjoyable for adults as well, ‘Gertrude’s Tahoe Adventures in Time’ is an introduction to the natural history of Lake Tahoe and how it came to be the incredible place we enjoy today.
The book tells the story of Gertrude, a Tahoe girl who meets a magical maiden who takes her on a fast motion adventure through the history of Lake Tahoe. They watch glaciers march, volcanoes erupt and exotic animals graze, all while the two become forever friends.

Illustrated by Jess Bechtelheimer, the book’s artwork is charming, vividly colorful and whimsical…everything you want in a children’s book. It’s obvious that the book is a heartfelt labor of love by both Tim and Jess and was designed to share with everyone this beautiful area we are all so grateful and lucky to call ‘home’.

Both Tim and Jess will be available to sign copies of this wonderful book on the following dates:
August 13, at The Bookshelf in Truckee – 6pm
August 14, at Grassroots Books in Reno – from 10:30am-12:30pm – AND Truckee Thursday from 4-6pm
August 15, at Ruffles and Roughnecks in Tahoe City – from 11am-1pm
August 16, at Sundance Books in Reno – from 3-4:30pm
The book is also available for purchase at The Bookshelf in Truckee, Ruffles and Roughnecks, The Store and The North Lake Tahoe Visitor’s Center in Tahoe City, Tahoe Mountain Sports in Kings Beach, Sundance Books and Grass Roots Books in Reno, or online.
AND…be sure to get a copy of Tim’s other books:
