Tucked away mid-mountain on the slopes of the Northstar Resort, The Ritz Carlton at Lake Tahoe, might not be on your radar as a place to visit while in Tahoe or Truckee, unless of course you were lucky enough to stay there. But after spending a recent Friday evening enjoy a meal outdoors on the patio, I was reminded that it is well worth the trip. Especially, if like the evening I was there, they were also offering the Tahoe Star Tour with Tony Berendsen.
The large open patio and expansive lawn area on the back of the resort showcases the views of the ski area and nearby mountains as the evening light softens the view. It was a peaceful and quiet setting as we dined on burgers, ribs, pulled pork sandwiches and some of the always comforting baked macaroni and cheese. They also have a heirloom tomato pizza and a smoked peach and prosciutto pizza. And of course you can find whatever you might like to drink.
Once our bellies were full and the night started to darken, a short walk brought us to The Meadows where the star show would begin. Tony is an entertaining guy and provides lots of fascinating information on the cosmos. Once it was truly dark, we were directed over to the humongous telescopes already set up to focus in on Jupiter and Saturn. It was my first chance to glimpse Saturn with it’s tell tale rings, and it was a memorable experience. The star tours happen every Friday until September 4th. Two, three and four bedroom suites are available for rent at The Ritz. The photo above was taken from one of the larger units which compares with a luxurious home. Dining is also available at Manzanita, and there is a full spa, two swimming pools and an exercise facility. For information go to ritzcarlton.com/en/Properties/LakeTahoe/Information/Default.htm
And don’t forget to check out the calendar of events to see what else is happening this summer at Northstar.
