Nothing says summer like the return of the Farmer’s Markets to the Sierra. Sure, the highlight of the Farmer’s Market is an opportunity to find fresh from the farm produce as well as a variety of other food products, but it is also a great social occasion. On a warm summer day, it’s a pleasure to take a stroll past all that food and abundance while chatting with the friends you inevitably run into. Be sure and enjoy these markets this summer:
Tuesday
Truckee Farmers Market 8 am-1 pm
10500 Brockway Road, at the Truckee Regional Park (between Highway 267 and downtown Truckee).
Thursday
Tahoe City Commons Beach 8 am-1 pm
What could be finer then gazing out at the lake while finding your dinner? Over the last few years the market moved to Tahoe Lake School during the busy mid-summer, this year the market will stay at the beach all summer long. Enjoy the view and bring the kids to play.
Incline Village Farmers Market, 4-7 pm,
Lake Tahoe School on Highway 28 near Sierra Nevada College
The market has moved closer to town from it’s previous location at the Tunnel Creek Cafe.
Truckee Thursdays, 5-8 pm, in the midst of the Truckee Thursday festivities in downtown Truckee is a small version of the same market that was in Tahoe City that morning.
Friday
The Sierra Valley Farms Farmers Market 10am to 2 pm
Northern end of Sierra Valley on Highway A-23 near Beckwourth.
This unique market is the only on farm market in California with a series of great food vendors, and frequently a chef’s cooking demonstration.
Sunday
Truckee Community Farmers Market – 10 am – 2 pm
12047 Donner Pass Road, In the parking lot where you find Paco’s and the Coffee Bar, also known as the Outlet Mall. This food and farm only market is a showcase for farmers within 125 miles of Truckee.

The Tahoe City Downtown Association invites you to join them for a Summer Solstice Festival. Events include a farmers market, classic car show, a wine walk and concerts on Commons Beach among an array of other delights.
Tahoe City is home to a plethora of fine restaurants, many with lake views, plenty of shopping and is the jump off spot to some of our finest bike trails along the West Shore of Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River. Don’t have a bike? Well you can rent one! Or just take a stroll if that’s more your speed.
The Truckee River in Tahoe City is Lake Tahoe’s only outlet, so be sure to stop at Fanny Bridge. How did it get its name? You’ll soon find out. Peer down into the turquoise blue waters at the river’s mouth to spot the mega sized Mackinaw and Rainbow Trout. Bring change. The local Girl Scout troops often stock fish food near the bridge. (Don’t feed them potato chips and Cheetos. They’re as bad for the fish as they are for you!)

Every time I read publications like ‘Edible Reno Tahoe’ I’m so inspired and proud of our area. The farm to fork movement is huge here, and with local growers from California and Nevada so nearby, we are blessed to have access to so much farm fresh produce.
The farmer’s markets not only feature fresh produce, but locally made candies, soaps, candles, crafts and a great deal more.
