Winter isn’t going down without a fight, as the recent heavy snowfall last week was proof positive of. Yet as I write this, I’m looking at blue, sunny skies and a warm day. Springtime in the Sierra’s has always been a relative term, with weather often turning from snow flurries and chilled winds to summer in a mere week…but usually not until July. That being said, there is still plenty to do and see during the off season, and some of it even comes with deep discounts.

Cushing’s Crossing Event at Squaw Valley
.
If you still haven’t gotten enough of winter yet, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows is still open for skiing and is scheduled through May. The Annual Cushing’s Crossing will be this Saturday, April 30th. This is a crazy fun event that is a real hoot. Just the sort of thing to kick off a good case of spring fever.
And don’t forget, now is the time to buy your season passes to the ski resort of your choice for next year. The deepest discounts are right now, with prices going up the closer to summer it gets. Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows prices go up May 5th. Other resorts may vary. Click on the Ski Resort links to the left on the blog to view their current information.
